About the week

Queensland Week is an annual celebration of the state’s culture, heritage, people and industry and centres around the state’s birthday on 6 June—the day Queensland became a separate colony in its own right.

Queenslanders across the state, including councils, schools, businesses, community organisations, sporting teams and individuals, are encouraged to participate in Queensland Week celebrations. It’s a week to Create. Innovate. Celebrate.

Watch this video about how Queensland came to be.

How to get involved

From Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 June 2016, Queenslanders are invited to get involved and share in this statewide celebration. You can:

  • light or decorate buildings, monuments, landmarks, workplaces, shopfronts, houses and gardens maroon to demonstrate state pride
  • host an event or promotion in the community, workplace or at home on or around Queensland Day, Monday 6 June
  • register an event or promotion on the online Queensland Week calendar
  • use the free resources and templates in the online toolkits.

Follow the Queensland Week conversation on Facebook and Instagram and share your celebrations using #qldweek so we can see how you are getting involved.
